NECA National Excellence Awards - 2007 Winner - Canberra Hospital Medial Records and Data Centre O’Donnell Griffin (ODG) has won a National Electricity and Communications Association (NECA) state award for its work on the Canberra Hospital Medical Records and Data Centre. This is ODG ACT’s second successive NECA state award after they won last year for their work at Defence House in Canberra. The company has a long and proven history at the hospital and their ability to perform in a critical environment was a key reason for their success on this project.


NECA National Excellence Awards - 2006 Winner - Defence House ACT O’Donnell Griffin (ODG) has won a National Electricity and Communications Association (NECA) National Excellence Award for its work in upgrading the power generation system at Defence House in Canberra. The award was presented to ODG ACT Manager, Mr Garry Waters, at this year’s NECA industry awards held on 9 November in Sydney. The NECA Awards of Excellence were awarded to those projects that demonstrated innovative use of new technologies, met and/or exceeded the client’s expectations and were also commercially profitable for the business.

NECA National Excellence Awards - Winner - Large Commercial Project Over $1 million ODG In ACT was awarded the 2004 NECA (National Electrical & Communications' Association) Award of Excellence in the Commercial Large Project for the Defence Network Operations Centre at HMAS Harman. The NECA Awards of Excellence are the ultimate showcase for the electrical and communications industry in Australia. They celebrate excellence in both technology, innovation and managerial expertise. Garry Waters, ODG Operations Manager said "ODG’s superior commercial skills stem from a commitment to project delivery methods. These methods place ODG in a position to maintain client satisfaction and to focus on the job at hand.” In addition to Garry Waters, the project team consisted of Paul Szymik – Project Manager, Brett Bieler – Minor Works Manager and Steve Kemp – Services Manager.

NECA Excellence Awards - Winner - Commercial Small Project Up To $1 million ODG Victoria won the national 2004 NECA award in the Commercial, Small Project Category valued up to $1 million in November. After taking out the Victorian award in July it was on to the nationals - and national success for ODG. O'Donnell Griffin Victoria displayed real excellence in electrical contracting on two sensitive call centre upgrade projects, ECV VICPOL and Tally - Ho Call Centre. Due to the high security nature of these '000' Emergency Call Centres, the upgrade of power, cabling and control systems had to have zero impact on the operation of the Centres. So most of the work was done at the low congestion period from midnight to 6 am. The team at O'Donnell Griffin Victoria was given stringent operational parameters, and the job was complex, but their dedication, skill and versatility yielded an excellent result. The NECA Awards of Excellence are the ultimate showcase for the electrical and communications industry in Australia. They celebrate excellence in technology, innovation and managerial expertise. Dave Howe, ODG State Manager and Project Manager Gavin Millane proudly accepted the award on behalf of the ODG team.

NECA National Excellence Awards - Winner - Industrial Category ODG In Victoria were awarded the 2003 NECA (National Electrical & Communications' Association) Award of Excellence in the Industrial category for the ANZ MIW Project. The NECA Awards of Excellence are the ultimate showcase for the electrical and communications industry in Australia. They celebrate excellence in both technology , innovation and managerial expertise. Dave Howe, ODG Service & Installations Manager said "without the dedication of our employees, specifically our field and supervisory staff involved in the project, we would not have achieved this award. It was their commitment that ensured successful completion of the project. This was a challenging project because the complete upgrade of this data centre had to be carried out without interruption to ANZ customer services."

NECA National Excellence Awards - Winner - Vision & Technology Category O'Donnell Griffin was the winner of the National Electrical and Communications Association's (NECA) 2000 Awards of Excellence in the "Vision and Technology" category for its involvement in the QNI Pilot Plant Project. This project was the result of the combined efforts of our Water Technology, Electrical and Automation divisions. From the 45 finalists O'Donnell Griffin also won the coveted Gold Award for the "Best Project in Australia" - the most prestigious award. Other O'Donnell Griffin projects were also included in the finalists: Major Projects - Worsley Alumina (O'Donnell Griffin won the Western Australian NECA award in the Industrial Project category). International Projects - the supply of generators to the Hong Kong Airport.

NECA Award of Excellence - Winner - Industrial Project Division Western Australia O'Donnell Griffin has been successful in receiving an Award of Excellence from the National Electrical and Communications Association for the Industrial Project Division in Western Australia. The project O'Donnell Griffin nominated was the recently completed Worsley Expansion Project. In May 1998 O'Donnell Griffin were awarded a contract to upgrade the electrical works on the Infrastructure of the raw materials area. This included new stacking conveyors, reclaimers and modification work to the stackers, overland conveyor and minesite crushers. The work involved many shutdowns as a guarantee of maintaining production was given to Worsley Alumina and achieved. In May 1999 O'Donnell Griffin were awarded the contract for all electrical and instrumentation works on the expansion "Whiteside Facilities". This was the largest electrical contract on the Expansion Project. With a contract duration of approximately 12 months, O'Donnell Griffin peaked at 350 personnel on site, 22,000 metres of electrical cable, 18,500 metres of electrical cable ladder, 24,000 metres of electrical conduit and 2,500 light fittings are an example of the quantities of equipment installed under this contract. By the timely contract completion O'Donnell Griffin expended over 500,000 man-hours on the Worsley Expansion Project.

NECA 1998 Award of Excellence - Winner - Export Division In recognition of our ability, O'Donnell Griffin were awarded the 1998 Award of Excellence by the National Electrical & Communications Association (NECA) in the Export Division for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the PLC based Total Power Management System for the Telekom Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Tower - Malaysia's tallest building and main communications centre. The system is designed to provide switching, load shedding and monitoring of all electrical services under all modes of operation, including partial and total loss of incoming utility supply, brown-out and fire mode.

NECA National Excellence Awards - Nomination - Technical & Innovation Category O'Donnell Griffin were finalists in the 2002 National Electrical and Communications Association's Awards of Excellence in the "Technical & Innovation" category for their work on the Henry Dean Building. O'Donnell Griffin was engaged by Baulderstone Hornibrook as the electrical services design development and construction contractor for the Henry Dean Building. Responsibilities included: Design Development Main Switchboards and Distribution Boards Emergency Power Systems (standby diesel and UPS) General Lighting and Power Architectural Lighting Data Communications Security Emergency Warning and Intercom Systems (EWIS) O'Donnell Griffin worked closely with Baulderstone Hornibrook and PlanningNSW to develop the original design provided by Addicoat Hogarth & Wilson for the base building electrical services. The implemented design provided cost effectiveness both at the construction stage of the project by maximising savings, as well as minimising life-cycle costs through the use of energy efficient design practices. As part of the design development process, O'Donnell Griffin proposed a number of modifications and improvements to maximise the energy efficiency of the building, that were accepted by PlanningNSW and incorporated during the construction phase of the project.
